New Local Representative, Flood, Sworn In to Office in Harrisburg
January 5, 2021
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Ann Flood (R-Northampton) today in Harrisburg took the oath of office and was sworn in to serve a two-year term representing the people of Pennsylvania’s 138th District.
“I’m grateful to have this opportunity and excited to get to work,” Flood said. “There isn’t a lot of time to celebrate because we have some important issues facing our Commonwealth.”
This year’s swearing-in ceremony was different from previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. State representatives took the oath of office in smaller groups, rather than all at the same time.
With the pandemic continuing to negatively affect the health, safety and economic security of many Pennsylvanians, Flood said her top priority is to work on policies that will protect residents while also enabling them to earn a living.
“I’ve been inspired by some of the acts of compassion and generosity that I’ve seen Pennsylvanians perform for one another during this pandemic,” Flood said.
Flood is committed to fighting for fair and adequate funding for local schools, colleges, universities, trade programs and other educational institutions in an effort to ensure every student has the best opportunity to learn and succeed.
She also is focused on adopting policies aimed at controlling the cost of health care to make it more affordable, while also expanding access to mental health services.
Prior to joining the state Legislature, Flood built from the ground up a foundation to enhance the quality of life for brain-injured children and offer support for their families. Ann started Lauren’s Hope Foundation in 2008 in memory of her daughter, Lauren, who was only four years old when she passed away in 2007 as the result of a brain injury sustained at birth.
Flood’s prior experience isn’t confined solely to health issues. She has also been active in promoting the economic health of the region by serving as the president of the board of directors of the Greater Bath Area Chamber of Commerce since 2017. Additionally, she serves on the board of governors for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce.
